Exhibition Dates: July 2, 2015 – July 31, 2015
Opening Reception: Thursday, July 2, 5pm – 8pm
Vetri is pleased to present The Fine Line, featuring original sculptures by Michael Schunke and Josie Gluck. This body of work presents intricately constructed patterns intended to dismantle symmetry and repetition. Interested in exploring the space where chaos becomes beautiful, the duo seek to express simple complexities – brushstrokes on a palette, scribbled crayon, tangled fishing line, fallen pine needles – in blown glass.
Schunke and Gluck studied glassmaking with Pino Signoretto and Lino Tagliapietra. Schunke, a former Associate Professor of Toyama City Institute of Glass Art in Japan, has work in the collections of Toyama Museum of Glass and Glasmuseet Ebeltoft (Denmark). Gluck holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and she was nominated for the 2009 Corning Award for Excellence in Learning.
Their mutual interest in aesthetic, design, and craftsmanship led to the founding of Vetro Vero, their collaborative production studio, in 2011. The studio’s glassware and home décor line has graced the pages of American Craft, Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, and Vogue. In conjunction with The Fine Line exhibition, the gallery will have a selection of Vetro Vero glassware available as well.
Join us for the debut of this special exhibition on Thursday, July 2nd, from 5pm-8pm during First Thursday Art Walk. The artists will be present.
