Gabriele Küstner
From a family heritage immersed in glassblowing in Italy hundreds of years ago to her present-day work, the artist’s modern contemporary pieces with colored glass offer a striking contrast to the cold, gray German landscape of her youth. Her southern Italian ancestry manifests through her vibrant use of color. Her work is highly graphic, with surfaces meticulously crafted using a laborious stone wheel process. Kustner combines three techniques: glass mosaics, polishing, and millefiori. This intricate process captures the essence of glass, which is light.
