Cedric Mitchell

Cedric Mitchell was an emerging Hip-Hop artist when he first learned of the Studio Glass Art Movement. Introduced to glassblowing in an elective course at Tulsa Community College, he quickly transitioned into an apprentice and instructor at The Tulsa Glassblowing School. In 2016 he moved to Los Angeles to work for his mentor Joe Cariati where he continued his learning and growth as a reputable glass maker. Cedric’s sculptures are inspired by an eclectic mix of Graffiti Art, Pop Culture, Mid-Century Modern Design, and Memphis Design. In his most current body of work, Cedric continues a series he began during a recent residency at Corning Glass Museum: colorful geometric forms stack to create built compositions, revealing a dynamic and buoyant visual language.

Active in Los Angeles’ burgeoning glass community and a founding board member at Crafting the Future, a non-profit working to diversify the fields of art, craft, and design, Cedric is positioning himself as an emerging artist to watch. In 2022 he was contacted by Nike, becoming the first glassblower to be featured in a Nike ad campaign.  In 2023 he will be an artist in residence at Hilltop, Tacoma, WA, YaYa, New Orleans, LA, and at Penland School of Crafts, NC.
