Stephanie Hargrave

Stephanie Hargrave’s 25-year practice spans encaustic painting, clay sculpture, and works on paper, with a focus on biological forms and processes. Widely shown across the U.S. and internationally, her work is included in public and private collections. After moving to Brooklyn in 2020 to work with renowned encaustic artist Michael David, she co-founded The Yellow Chair Salon, a critical thinking-based education series. There, she mentored artists and directed virtual exhibitions and residency programs. After three years, Hargrave returned to Seattle to focus on sculpture and reconnect with her kiln.

Hargraves’ current fascination with the ocean deeply influences her approach. She coaxes materials like porcelain, beeswax, and India ink to mimic the fluidity of water. This exploration results in organic forms that evoke the fluid patterns of growth and evolution, offering viewers a connection to the intricate cycles and forces that expose the mysteries of the natural world.
