Myra Kaha

Myra Kaha was captivated at an early age by the dichotomy of structure and the abstract. Over time she began to understand the ways in which these seemingly different concepts are significantly connected and work in concert with each other. Kaha explores these ideas using architecture as abstract containers, engaged by the protection both provide. She utilizes this idea to create concrete manifestations of the spaces we inhabit in our daily lives and our nightly dreams.

Kaha was raised by Midwestern intellectuals: an artist and an architect. She started making pots and mending books at about the same time, which spurred her interest in physical and metaphoric containers. This odd collection of influences evolved and she continues to address these ideas in her work. Kaha currently lives in Seattle, works at Pratt Fine Art Center and recently completed a 2-year residency at Pottery Northwest.
