Amanda McDonald Stern
Born in 1980 in Cincinnati, Ohio, Amanda McDonald Stern studied painting at SUNY Purchase and received her BFA in sculpture from Jacksonville University. She studied glass and sculpture at Pratt Fine Arts Center, Pilchuck Glass School, Corning Museum of Glass, Pittsburgh Glass Center, and the University of Miami. Her career in fine arts and manufacturing involves travel to locations across the United States and overseas, which has led to her immense interest in how we relate to our surrounding environments, material objects, and one another. She explores her interest in relationships within the language of color and line through the assemblage of multiple parts.
In the artist’s sculptural Modular Series, jewel-like hues and supple shapes are integrated to create concentric fluid forms awash with painterly color, celebrating the translucent qualities of glass.
In the Amanda McDonald Stern Studio Line, irreverent and playful shapes are expressed in functional objects to complement interior environments.
Amanda McDonald Stern lives in Los Angeles, California, and is part of the thriving LA glass community.
