Jim Vollmer is inspired by design, texture, and visual effects. In his Tapestry series, he slices bars of color and fuses them in intricate designs. He then uses the optic quality of the stringer to create a pointillist effect wherein non-primary colors are generated by the visual mixing that occurs in the viewer’s eye when primary colors are placed within close proximity of each other.
Jim Vollmer moved to Seattle in 1979 after earning a BFA in Interior Design and minor in Stained Glass Design from LSU. He has worked as a stained glass and architectural glass artist on projects throughout the Pacific Northwest, and has been creating fused glass sculptures for 30 years.
